Is Google picking up the fight against social networks with ‘Posts’?

By on March 5, 2016 | News

Google is experimenting with a new format for search with the US presidential campaign and would eventually roll out the feature for other influential personalities and brands. The design is similar to what we have seen on ‘cards’ on our Android devices and can be tapped on for more information. This is like adding a social layer to the Google search results but without the option of commenting or responding. This means the travel brands can explore new ways to use Google and market their offerings.

Google is still testing this feature so how it might end up looking once it comes out of experimental phase. Google terms it “An experimental new podium” and while it is open only for the US Presidential candidates for now, the website states “In the future, we plan to make it available to other prominent figures and organizations”.

While the audience don’t have the option to interact with the posts, they can choose to share on other social media platforms if they want to. In travel, brands often get backlash from dissatisfied customers in a large number of their social communications. The idea of being able to send the message without receiving feedback will be attractive to the brands in this space. They are inviting people to join the waitlist for early access.
